| The most Frequently Asked Question is the question about scanner compatibility, especially for those of you who already have a scanner. Before you start reading the list, please keep in mind the following: USB2 - Acronym for Universal Serial Bus, the current standard for connecting peripherals such as scanners to a computer. USB is great because its so easy to use. This standard is NOT supported by the Windows 95 and NT operating systems. TWAIN - another computer acronym. Basically, TWAIN is an instruction set that enables the scanner and computer to "recognize" each other. Not all scanners are TWAIN and not all TWAIN drivers are equal and not all older scanners work with newer operating systems If you already have a scanner, before you change your operating system (e.g., Windows ME to XP), visit your scanner manufacturers' website and see if there's an updated TWAIN driver. TWAIN compatibility with Kurzweil software is important. If you're not sure about the scanner you have or the scanner you're considering, especially if it's not on the List, please contact us. The Kurzweil engineers are very busy and the list may not reflect their most up-to-date knowledge. Click on the link to the Kurzweil Educational Systems website. www.kurzweiledu.com/scanner_compatibility.asp
If you own a scanner that is not listed there, please let us know and we'll help investigate whether it will work or not. Or request a free Kurzweil demo CD and try it out for yourself.
